Artist's Statement #1
For the first part of my independent study I spent my time working on the base images that will make up my animations. This included drawing, coloring, shading, and separating each individual part that I will animate. The way I animate is that I redraw frames about 3 times, looping them to create movement. I’ll do this with each part, then take these compositions in after effects to move them accordingly.
For this part I also took experimental film and slowed them down to 5fps. I’ve begun starting to draw over these frames in order to create a rotoscoping effect.
When we did independent study critique I got some good feedback. Issa gave me more recommendations for experimental film to include in my project, such as Pastor’s Wife, Semiotics of the Kitchen, and any film by Shauna Moulton.
I want to try and play with the space. As I continue my project I get more ideas on how to present it, but I feel like it could be powerful to include multiple video projections across the space. Logistically, I’m not sure how this would work. I could do multiple mini projectors, but they would all have to link up to one computer, which may not work logistically. I could also use monitors, but not only do I run into the same issue from before, I also take away any chance of interactivity in these areas. I honestly am not going to worry about the construction of the presentation until after I animate, as my ideas have been changing the more I’ve worked on the project.
