As I finished the first semester of my freshman year of college I found myself wondering about what really prompted me on the art path. I was confused as I come from a very business focused family, myself being the only artist in my extended family. When I returned to Houston and reunited with my childhood housekeeper it hit me- It was her, Teresa, who planted the seed of art in me. I vividly remember being a little girl and sitting down with Teresa at the dining room table and drawing pictures of just about anything we could think of. Growing up she would always ask me what I wanted to be and while my answers tended to rotate they seemingly all shifted back to art to which she would say, “People will always be in need of an artist.” I still can see her face light up with joy when I told her I was going to CU Boulder and pursuing a career in art.

As a mixed media artist my journey is to express myself in ways I wasn’t able to when I was younger. My work tends to be bold and graphic and often focuses within linocut prints mixed with typography. Through these methods I wish to portray vivid representations of the meanings and analysis I’ve derived from the media around me. When I describe media, I mean anything I’ve consumed. From artists such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers and No Doubt to movies like Donnie Darko and Pearl to artists such as Yayoi Kusama and branding companies such as NeiterCreative, everything I consume I feel as if I can transform into art.
