For my soundscape I wanted to create an auditory experience of being one of the animals in Fantastic Mr. Fox. I started by writing a brief description of the plot, splitting the main scenes into nine total parts. I then analyzed each part by making note of the most important aspects of the scenes and finding a rough noise descriptor that matched it. After this, I then composed the main aspects that would repeat, such as the digging, Mr.Fox’s trademark click, and the fighting between animals. I roughly arranged these repetitive sounds throughout the composition where I felt like they would naturally occur in the composition. Then, I found ways to recreate various other sounds, like the infamous cider flood after Mr. Fox’s toast, by using various sound files from our shared folder. I relied heavily on layering, especially for things like digging and dinners, to really make the audience feel like they were a part of the herd of animals that lived with Mr.Fox. In a brief order, the composition follows the plot of Fantastic Mr.Fox, referencing major scenes like Mr.Fox and his wife getting trapped, the progressive stealing of animals, the squabble between animals and farmers, Kristofferson being captured, and ultimately the exuberant feast presented at the end of the movie. Overall, I aimed to use my analysis of the movie to construct an auditory soundscape of animalistic anxiety in order to place the listener into the world of Fantastic Mr.Fox and all that follows.
