I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do for this project, but then I went over to my friends house and saw her watching Fantastic Mr. Fox and found myself enamored within the movie. Fantastic Mr. Fox has always been one of my favorite movies, but a favorite movie in the sense where I forget something so unique exists and get to relive the joy of watching it after every experience. For my project, I want to take the viewer through an auditory path of the movie, or at least parts of it. I want to utilize effects to give the viewer the same feeling of dread when cider begins to flood the underground tunnels, or to fill them with anxiety as the animals try to dig free. Everything about this movie is rich- From the stop motion to the colors, the music, and more. There are certain moments I want to replicate with sound from the movie. For example, I want to make the audience feel like they’re a part of the animal pack stuck underground. They are the target for the soundscape, they are the ones digging, they are the ones being flooded out. I plan to do this by using inspiration from scenes such as the toast scene or the revolt against the farmers to create the animal versus human battle depicted in the movie. By using visual inspirations paired with inspiration from audio choices from the movie, I aim to replicate the unique factors of what makes Fantastic Mr. Fox enjoyable through my exquisite corpse soundscape.
